[00:00:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Come on, [00:00:07] Speaker B: get him up now, everybody. Welcome back to the Kingdom Bound Insider podcast. My name is Mike Wing. I'm the associate director at Kingdom Bound Ministries and we are back for a very special episode. You know, earlier in the year we interviewed Sean Rodriguez and we had such a good time with him that there was so much that we actually weren't able to air during the original podcast. And so we are going to revisit our interview with Sean. We are going to air the episode in the interview from the episode in its entirety. There is so much good stuff you're going to want to hear. There's a lot of new stuff that you didn't hear in the original episode and so make sure you stick around for that. But thanks for joining us and we hope you enjoy this interview with Sean. I am super excited about this next [00:00:54] Speaker A: part of the podcast. [00:00:55] Speaker B: We have a very special friend. You know the song that you absolutely love, start the podcast with. [00:01:02] Speaker C: I know that one. [00:01:02] Speaker B: We get the guy who. The one who performed the only you're supposed to. Sean Rodriguez. [00:01:10] Speaker C: Thank you. That's what. You should have inserted your own name. Let's try it again. [00:01:13] Speaker B: The one, the only Sean Rodriguez. [00:01:18] Speaker A: He knows what's going on, guys. [00:01:20] Speaker B: He is a great friend of the ministry. He's such a servant. I, you know, he'll do anything that we ask him to. He comes with an amazing heart. You come with so much energy. Like I. [00:01:34] Speaker C: It's about. [00:01:34] Speaker B: We did a dance night at 11:15. You guys are doing flip. [00:01:38] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. [00:01:38] Speaker B: Dancing all over the place and so super fun to work with you. Love your heart, love what you bring to the stage, love what you bring when you're off the stage. You're just a great guy and we're so thankful to have you, man. Thank you so much for joining us, man. [00:01:53] Speaker A: Thank you for having me. Being with the KB Fam has been a blessing the past couple years and it's so funny to hear you even talk about how, you know, we did the. The dance party at 11:15 and stuff like that. Those are the moments that my team and I talk about the most. Those, like those. Those moments that are late and everybody's going crazy and it's like kind of chaos, but it's kind of not and it's kind of. It was just like trolled. That makes. That makes Kingdom Bound so memorable and so much fun. And those times where we get to come and not just do a show, but then we to hang with the KB family afterwards and really bond, get to know each Other, like, that stuff's awesome, man. So, yeah, I'm super honored to have been a part of that, to continue to be a part of it. All of that is so amazing. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Nice. [00:02:37] Speaker C: Yeah. So, Sean, question for you. How. How did you become a Christian? When did you. How'd that journey go for you, man? [00:02:45] Speaker A: So I actually grew up in church. My grandfather, he was, and he still is, a pastor. And so much of what I believe, so much of even how I. How I lead and how I view ministry, how I love people, much of that came from what I learned from both learning from him, but also from watching him. So I was able to grow up in church. I've always had that. That close relationship with God in my life. I've always had those good examples. That doesn't mean I never made stupid decisions or I never, you know, I was a teenager, too, sure. But. But, you know, the. The majority of my life, I am very thankful to say that I have. I have known who God is in my life. And so, you know, with that being said, I also GRE an area that really needed God, and I was influenced by some of those things that that area offered. You know, I grew up in inner city Denver, and I was so influenced by inner city culture, and I wanted to be that while at the same time knowing I'm supposed to be more like Jesus. And so it was a really weird upbringing to where, you know, I. I understood the church, and I understood relationship with God so well, but I also understood the pool that the world has on a young person's heart. I understood that so well as well. And so in a weird way, I'm really thankful to have been raised kind of in the middle of all of that. [00:04:09] Speaker C: Sure. Yeah. So with that story, I would assume that there's moments, or wherever we want to call them, time frames, where I'll ask it this way, like, what keeps you a Christian now? Or what kept you because, you know, being born a Christian, like, you were in a. How does that journey flow for you? [00:04:27] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I mean, that's a good question, because, you know, a lot of people from people that I've talked about who grew up similar to me, something that you'll find often is the story of church hurt or something that you'll find often is the story of, you know. Yeah. I grew up in church. I realized it wasn't all it was, you know, said to be and all of that. And I did come across those moments in my life from people that attended the church or, you know, were passing through or anything like that. And what I always tell people is this man, the, the bad things that happened to me in my life, the bad things that came from church hurt. The bad things that I've witnessed, the, you know, the, the things that lured me away from the church, that made me think about something else. Those things, when you compare them to the incredible things that I've seen growing up in church, they have no weight. They don't stand a chance. So the goodness of God has always outweighed any negative or that, you know, ungodliness had to offer. You know what I mean? So. So the worst church hurt could not measure up to the best God love, the best worldly draw, could not measure up to the goodness of God within the church. So God was just always continuing, proving again and again that he is better than the worst of the worst. And the best of the best God is always better than that. That's. That's what it always came back to for me. [00:05:52] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, getting to know you a little bit and getting to know your music and watching you perform and also watching you off the stage, it really seems like you see music as something that builds a bridge for generations, connects people, almost creates like a family or community with the people that you're, like, performing with and hanging out with. Talk about that. Like, how did that start? How did that come about? [00:06:20] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I mean, it came from. It came from growing up being a fan of those kind of situations. You know, I grew up going to festivals as, as a, as a middle schooler, and then eventually as a teenager with my friends. I grew up going to the festivals. I knew what those seasons meant to me. That was where everybody bonded the most. That was where all of the God moments happened. That was, it was just like we would look forward all year to that, you know, that week with the youth group where we were going to go and like, we were going to do some ministry stu stuff, and then we were going to celebrate by all going to the festival together. And like, that, that meant so much to me. That was the thing that I looked forward to. And for me, you know, when I was a teenager, I would volunteer at vacation Bible school. And then there was always a festival that lined up at the end of the week of vacation Bible school. It was on the weekend. And so it would be like serve all week and then go to the festival as a youth group together. That was the best time of the year always. And so for me, remembering what it felt like to have that community bond, remember what it felt like, to just be there, be somewhere different, and just be in, like, this place where everybody's celebrating, everybody's happy. It's a good day. Being on the other side of that now, being able to be a part of it, man, I want to do everything that I can to help create that feeling, because I got to experience that feeling so strong. And now I'm like, what? Are you serious? Like, I get to be part of the feeling now. Like, this. This is. This is incredible. [00:07:46] Speaker B: Yeah, it definitely comes across that you're mindful of making sure your audience isn't there just to spectate, but you make them feel like they're part of the performance, part of the crowd, part of the what's going on. And it's really neat to see. [00:08:00] Speaker A: Yeah, man, we're supposed to. We're supposed to celebrate God together. We're supposed to have. Have joyful moments together. That's what this is all about. And if there's no people, there's no point of doing this. You know what I mean? Like, if you're not. If you're not doing it for the people, if you're not spreading that love, if you're not spreading that contagious joy, then. Then we. We don't need to do this, you know? But it's that moment. It's about creating that environment where we can all just come and celebrate God together. I loved being a part of it, and now I love getting to play a part in making it happen. And, you know, either way, it's so funny because, you know, especially at an event like Kingdom Bound, we'll be there and we'll play the show, but then you'll definitely see us, like, out and, like, playing volleyball or so. You know what I mean? Like, we'll be doing all. All of that. It's just. It's being a part of it, fully stepping into it and saying, like, yeah, let's just have a good time with. With God's people. [00:08:54] Speaker C: You strike me as a guy who would be the most fun character on a silent disco floor. It would. Have you ever been to silent disco? Like, is that. [00:09:03] Speaker A: You know that. [00:09:03] Speaker B: We had him host our silent disco. [00:09:06] Speaker C: I didn't use that. [00:09:07] Speaker A: Chris didn't know that that's what you call a loser. Oh, man. Right here. Wow, that was. That was good, man. No, that was. That was good. Yeah. I got to silent disco a couple years back with. With Kingdom Bound, and, man, that was. That was fun. I had no idea what I was going into, but Mike was like, hey, man, you want to host the siren disco. I was like, sure, bro, let's go. [00:09:30] Speaker C: Was that your first one ever or. No? [00:09:32] Speaker A: That was. That was my first one. That was my first one ever. And I was trying to explain the concept to my team because they came with me too, and they were like, wait, so what are we doing? I said, I. I don't know, bro. Let's just. Let's just. We're just gonna go have fun. And it was a blast. But it's so funny when you take the headphones off, it sounds terrible. Terrible. Everybody's. Everybody's singing different songs and they're in different keys. And, you know, not everybody can sing, Sean. And so. Well, no, it's. It's like this song is in this key and this song, it's key, and it's. It's just like. It's a whole. It's a whole mashup. It's hilarious. But then, you know, you put them back on and you go back to the fun. [00:10:10] Speaker C: If you could pick one CCLI type song to turn into an EDM mix featuring yourself, what would you shake? [00:10:17] Speaker A: That's a big question. A CCLI song. Wow, that. That is good. [00:10:24] Speaker B: That. [00:10:24] Speaker C: That. [00:10:24] Speaker A: That's really good. And especially so I've always. I've. I've always had, like, a really, like a love for a beautiful name. What a beautiful name. It is. I love that song. We play that song in the live show. How that would sound as an EDM song, I don't know, because the beauty of it is that it's slow and worshipful. But, you know, beautiful name that. That might. [00:10:47] Speaker C: I can hear it. I hear it. That. Drop the. [00:10:50] Speaker A: You know. [00:10:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:51] Speaker A: What a beautiful name. You know. [00:10:54] Speaker C: Yeah. Get some real Skrillex going. [00:10:56] Speaker B: You're on the same label as gregatron. You guys gotta, like, work that out somehow, dude. The. [00:11:02] Speaker A: The. Yeah, Gregatron, man, he's. He's wild. He's one of those producers that I could come in with a crazy idea, probably like that, and he'd be like, oh, bro, give me five minutes and it'll just be done, you know? [00:11:14] Speaker C: Nice. [00:11:15] Speaker B: So you did a song with Disciple. Tell us about how that came about. Like that you a disciple. They don't seem to mix What. What happened there. [00:11:23] Speaker C: He is a disciple. [00:11:25] Speaker B: That's honest. [00:11:28] Speaker A: Yeah, so. So it's. [00:11:29] Speaker C: So. [00:11:30] Speaker A: It's so interesting. Yes, we. We definitely don't seem to mix from. From a genre perspective. Kevin, though, man, he was. He was the guy. When I got to do Winter Jam, Kevin came, just put his Arm around me. And he really walked me through a really weird season in my life where I was mentally trying to grasp on to, like, where am I? What am I doing? Like, this is all. This is all moving really fast. And I was going through, you know, the. The imposter syndrome hard. I was like, I don't belong here. I don't. You know, this is not. I'm not good enough to be here. And. And Kevin really came in, and he walked me through. He's like, hey, man, it's just, you're. You're an artist. It just means you're just like the rest of us. I've been there before. Let me walk you through this. And so Kev did help me shift my perspective and what I came to after feeling like, man, God, I don't belong here. After talking with Kevin, more and more, I felt like God was like, hey, Sean, guess what? You don't belong here. That's why you should be thankful that you're here. And that's why you should give me everything that you have, because you couldn't have got yourself here. You are here because of what I have done, and you're going to stay here because of what I will do through you. So as long as you get yourself out of the way, you're going to be all right. [00:12:38] Speaker C: And. [00:12:39] Speaker A: And that was something that, you know, Kevin really helped me kind of. Kind of walk through and remembering that, you know, the things in life that happen are. Because, you know, God puts us in those positions. And so it's like, well, let's. Let's give it all to him. So after learning from him in that way, just being close with them, you know, I. I had this song that I started, and I was like, man, this. This is cool. It sounds a little more, like, rock heavy. And then I thought, man, that would be really cool if. If Kevin would check this song out. So I played it for him, and I didn't even ask him. He was just like, cool, I'm in. And I was like, what? Are you serious? And I was like, well, I was gonna ask you, like, if you would want to do something with it. He's like, just tell me when, buddy. Let's go. And so it just kind of, like. It just kind of just unfolded and just happened like that. And, dude, I got to be in the studio. He came into the studio and he recorded his part, and I was fanning out so hard. I freaked out, like, you know, because to see him do it on stage and stuff, it was cool, you know, we had been on Winter Jam, I got to see him do it 40 times, but to see him in the studio, no, no smoke and lights, no special effects, just him going, dude. I was like, man, he did the thing. That's the Kevin thing. So it was cool. It was an incredible moment, you know, just, just all the way through. From, from initially meeting the whole team and, you know, walking that through, seeing, you know, seeing it all play out and then performing it with him at Kingdom Bound last year, it was just this weird, like, God, is this happening? Like, it was just one of those moments, you know, when we were planning [00:14:16] Speaker B: the lineup and we, we had the chance to get Disciple, we were like, I hope that we can get Sean and Disciple to do that. We were super pumped for it. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, I saw, I saw the comment section was going crazy with that. Like, does this mean you guys are going to do the song together? I was like, yeah. [00:14:36] Speaker B: So, like, when you talked about Kevin from Disciple taking his arm around you on tour backstage, that, to me, that does, like, that is something that I would never expect to happen, you know, kind of when I, When I'm from my experience, bands kind of hang out in their own rooms or their own tour buses. How much does that happen? Yeah, how much does that happen where people will like, come alongside and encourage or just say something at that right moment? [00:15:06] Speaker A: I will say this at the capacity and at the level of investment that Kevin did. [00:15:11] Speaker B: It. [00:15:12] Speaker A: It has not happened since then and I have not seen it happen, which is why, you know, I will, I will tell anybody and I will go to bat for that. He is, he is one of the most ministry centered and truly just like heartfelt people that I've ever met, period. Like, in general, you don't see that a lot. You'll see, you know, you'll see people hanging out, you'll see camaraderie, you know, especially on Winter Jam backstage, everybody's playing ping pong and stuff like that. But, you know, but to be invested and to say, like, I'm gonna walk through with you, I'm gonna check in on you, I'm gonna, you know, I'm gonna give you this encouragement from time to time, you know, hey, hey, what's up? You know, what do you need? How can we help you? Those kind of things. I have not seen it since then and it me like how, how, how much that truly meant and how different that really was, you know. [00:16:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it's cool. [00:16:09] Speaker C: Beautiful thing. [00:16:10] Speaker B: So you did your song with Disciple and in a little bit, Chris and I are going to be doing a thing where we. We're going to, like, talk about different bands that no longer tour or aren't together again. And, like, that one band that we would want to see one more performance of, we're going to kind of give our own little list of if there was one band, past or present even, that you have, like a bucket list of. I would like, if I could go back in time, I would do a song with this person or right now, you know, if I could do a song with them. Is there a band that you would, like, love to do something with, to collaborate with? [00:16:47] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And. And it's a. It's a. Both. And. And. And please don't cancel me for saying this, but it's. [00:16:54] Speaker C: You. [00:16:54] Speaker A: You said. You said that we could go back in time, which would. Which would refer to the time that I discovered them when I was a kid. DC Talk is the man that got her inspired. DC was, you know, I mean, I was singing Jesus Freak, trying to learn, you know, the rap to that song. And, you know, Jesus is all right, you know, and all of that. So ultimately, you know, back then, DC Talk, if I could revive that season of the career, and then. And then I feel like the music just fits because they were, you know, they were dancing and they were doing the thing. I'm like, oh, yeah, that would just make sense. But I mean, that even translates into today, Toby Mack, you know, if I could do something with. With Toby Mack, a fun, energetic kind of thing. Yeah, but. But definitely, like, they were. They were the band. And that. That Jesus Freak song, Jesus Is all right. Those songs specifically, those were the ones that I was like, there's something cool about that. I want to learn that. I want to learn those words. I want to rap the song, I want to dance to those songs, those kind of things. [00:17:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:58] Speaker C: Nice. [00:17:59] Speaker B: I was wondering. I was wondering what inspired you to kind of get into the. The business and who. [00:18:04] Speaker C: Who was your D.C. talk? [00:18:05] Speaker B: D.C. talk. [00:18:06] Speaker A: Yeah, man, it was. It was D.C. talk and, and Modern Day. From a band perspective. I mean, I hope for King and Country just never retires. I hope they continue to perform into. Into forever. I hope that I can do something with them at. At some point. They just have. I'll tell you what, man. I. I personally believe they have the best show, not just in Christian music, but just in the attention to detail that they put in the passion that they do it with. After how long and how big they've gotten, they still are just, like, they're fully invested every Time they do something, and that heart shines through. So I love. I love their show. I love what they do. I love their energy, their. Their detail. It's. It's all really cool, man. Those are. That's. They're. They're one of my favorite bands, for sure. [00:18:50] Speaker B: What they did at the Doves, I like this. [00:18:53] Speaker A: Oh, gosh. [00:18:54] Speaker B: I hope they do it at least in some capacity at Kingdom Bound. Like, I hope they do something with fire. Like, I hope they. I hope it looks. It is a little bit like what it did at the Doves, even if [00:19:05] Speaker A: they could just get it closed. Man, that. That Dove performance, that was wild. I was taking notes. I was like, that was cool. I turned over because my. My team was there. I said, guys, we need fire. And they said. They said, sean, we need insurance. And I was like, okay. I said, maybe. Maybe next year, dude. Yeah, y. [00:19:25] Speaker B: That's the hardest thing to get at Kingdom about. The town doesn't give us much permission in that area, so that's. That's one of the bummers. Yeah, we. We always run into. [00:19:33] Speaker A: That's so interesting. [00:19:34] Speaker B: Yeah, the town. [00:19:35] Speaker A: See, there's. There. There's a. So I love talking with you guys because there's this whole, like, world behind the scenes of, like, people, and I. I see this. I see this now, being able to be on the other side. But when I went to a festival to. To just attend and shoot, I had no idea how much time. All the hoops to jump through. There is so much to go through to make those events happen. But that's why I appreciate y'. [00:19:57] Speaker C: All. [00:19:57] Speaker A: And what you do is because, like, you. You don't have to go through all of that, but you do, because it's. It's the big picture, and. And you bring the people of God together to celebrate God. I just think that's awesome, man. [00:20:09] Speaker B: If you want to keep us happy for the rest of our lives, just never use confetti. [00:20:14] Speaker C: We hate confetti. [00:20:15] Speaker A: Okay. [00:20:16] Speaker C: Unless if it's on fire, because then it will go out. No cleanup. No cleanup. Just so if you can get your insurance company to do that, then. [00:20:25] Speaker A: Okay, there we go. Magician papers that burn up, they, like, you throw them up, and they. We'll get some of that going. [00:20:34] Speaker C: Yeah, that'd be great. Can you settle a debate for us? [00:20:38] Speaker A: I can try my best. [00:20:39] Speaker C: All right, so he's an unforeseen kiss guy, and I'm a sloppy wet kiss guy. [00:20:46] Speaker B: Earlier, we were talking about John Mark [00:20:47] Speaker C: McMillan not being on tour anymore. What a bummer. [00:20:51] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:52] Speaker C: What? Let's. So we're one on one. Let's see where we get to here. [00:20:56] Speaker B: Sloppy wet or unforeseen? [00:20:58] Speaker C: I mean, I know this is old [00:20:59] Speaker A: news, but, you know, man, I, I just, I personally, I don't get sloppy wet kiss. I don't get the reference. It just doesn't seem. And I get, and it's probably one of those things where it's like, you know, like, oh, but that's the original, man. You know, stick to the original. But like, I just, I just don't get it. [00:21:21] Speaker B: If I'm in a room. [00:21:22] Speaker C: That's fair. [00:21:23] Speaker B: If I'm in a room with like 200 people, I cannot sing sloppy wet kisses with 200 other people. [00:21:29] Speaker A: It's. [00:21:29] Speaker B: It's weird. [00:21:30] Speaker A: Yeah, it's, it's, it's weird, right? It, it's, it's definitely weird. And you know, it's just, I don't know. I mean, what about the guy that's, that's worshiping next to his crush and then you sing the sloppy wet kiss line and now his mind's going somewhere else? You know me. And he's like, guy, did you hear that part? Did you hear that part? You know what I mean? [00:21:49] Speaker B: Like, Sean, Mark knew what he was doing. [00:21:51] Speaker A: Yeah, he knew what he was doing. He, he, he was helping the boys out, man. [00:21:55] Speaker C: Come on, everybody needs a little help. [00:21:59] Speaker A: I'm, if I gotta put that part. [00:22:02] Speaker B: You had no game. [00:22:03] Speaker C: Oh, [00:22:08] Speaker B: He was pumping John Mark McMillan in his car ride home after for the dates. [00:22:12] Speaker C: You know, it just looked right at her. [00:22:15] Speaker B: Sloppy, wet, uncomfortable eye contact. [00:22:19] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, I, I don't know. I, I, I've been dating. I've been with this, I've only. Since I was 15 years old. Okay. [00:22:27] Speaker A: I didn't need game. [00:22:28] Speaker C: Oh, man. [00:22:29] Speaker A: Yeah, well, there you go. There you go. No Unfor, Unforeseen kiss. That, that's my vote. I understand that the other one is the original, but it just, I, I don't get it. I'm an unforeseen kiss. [00:22:40] Speaker C: So in the future when someone, then you're even more famous and someone takes your song and they change the lyrics. Are you going to be offended if [00:22:49] Speaker A: I ever drop a line like sloppy? You'll expect it. Do with it what you want, man. If it makes sense. I, I'm down. [00:23:00] Speaker C: So. [00:23:00] Speaker B: Good segue. What are you excited about that's come out or has is coming out or has come out? What's going on in your world? [00:23:06] Speaker A: Yeah, man, I'm, I'm super excited about a Lot of things. I just had a song called Just Like God Release that song. Actually, speaking of, you know, I've been saying celebr a lot. That song is a celebration of the things in life that only God can do. It's the things that make us say, man, ain't that just like God? And so that. That song is doing awesome. I've loved the stories that I've heard from people about that song and just the. The early response that we've gotten to it. The music video is a blast. It's full of color and just kind of like, like, very, very lively, very celebratory. I have another song coming out that I'm very excited about that's going to be coming out probably towards the end of May Me. But, you know, I won't. I won't share too much on that one because I want it to be a little bit of a surprise, but it's going to be really cool, and it's going to set up the summer season so well. So I'm very excited about that. And obviously, I'm excited about Kingdom Bound and sharing some other new songs that I have kind of stocked up. We really put a lot of work into revamping the live show, doing even more. So I'm so pumped to be out there with y'. [00:24:08] Speaker C: All. Nice. [00:24:09] Speaker B: All right, so go ahead. [00:24:11] Speaker C: Oh, well, you use the word celebratory, and I like that word. [00:24:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:15] Speaker C: And I noticed. I don't know if you notice. I don't know if you get critiqued, but certainly in the Christian culture, sometimes like, that, the joy thing, the fun thing, the celebratory thing can be, like, heavily, like, kiboshed or critiqued. So what do you do when someone, like, is coming at you with that kind of information? Does that happen to you? [00:24:34] Speaker A: I don't know, man. If I get. If I get any kind of comment that's, like, you know, just, like, really negative and like. But, like, in a. Not in a way that it doesn't make sense. What I'll do is I'll respond to that comment and then I'll pin it to the top of the post and let everybody know that, like, you know, hey, this person didn't think that we should be celebrating. You know what I mean? Just, like, I. I want your feedback to feel seen. You know what I mean? I love it because. I love it because it's a good opportunity to respond and just say, like, well, well, man, as. As Christians, we. We should be celebrating. We should actually. We should be more excitable. And more hyped and more pumped than anybody else because we have. We have this thing. We have this. We have this God that loves us so much. We have this thing called forgiveness where it's like, man, we got a second chance at life and some of us got a tenth chance at life. You know what I mean? Like, there is so much to celebrate. There's so much to be joyful about. And. And I. I don't. I don't ever take away from the hardship because the hardship of life is what makes testimony. Right? You can't say God got me through this without going through something, you know, but something that I truly believe and something that I say all the time is this. It's. We did not come this far just to come this far. So even what you're going through, even what you've been through, we can still celebrate that because that it's all for a purpose. And we know that we're going to stand on the other side of that. Even if you're in the middle of it right now, we know that you're going to stand on the other side of it and you're going to say, look at who I am and look at where I was and I'm who I am because of who God made me. And that's a reason to celebrate. So if you're not celebrating now because you're in that stage, then celebrate because you will be. There's always something to be joyful about. And as Christians, I think that's the joy that people feel. That's how people know that there's something different about us. They see that contagious joy. They say, man, I want what you have. And we say, well, well, cool. I just got God. So if you want God, I can help you out with that. So, you know, that's. That's always. That's always how I push back about it again. It's never to take away from the heaviness of life. It's never to take away from the real situations that all of us go through. But it's to remind people, celebrate even in the storm, because you know that the sun's coming on the other side, you know that God is going to turn good from it all. There is still always reason to celebrate life. [00:26:59] Speaker C: Yeah. And I. There's a phrase that sometimes gets used. It's defiant joy. And certainly you carry joy, but you also carry a defiant joy that just even comes through this zoom screen. And I love it. Well, I'm fan of your music, fan of Your work. [00:27:12] Speaker B: I like that. I like that defiant. [00:27:14] Speaker A: I like defiant joy. That's actually. That's really good, man. That's incredible. [00:27:17] Speaker C: The next song, I guess, huh? [00:27:20] Speaker A: It just, it just may be because that defiant joy. Oh man, that's. That's dope, man. Because I tell you what, like, the devil will throw things at you. You to take away that joy, man. He'll take away that joy. He'll make you mad at God. And you know, I have a song called Honey. And the way that I set it up is the devil tries to make you bitter towards yourself, towards others, and bitter towards God. But the word of God is sweet like honey into our lips. So when life makes us bitter, we turn to God's word and put a little honey on life. That's that defiant joy, saying, like, the devil's gonna throw this at you. But in the face of that opposition, the joy in our hearts that is from God, that's going to drive the devil crazy. That's that defiant joy, man. I love it. [00:28:00] Speaker C: That's beautiful. [00:28:01] Speaker B: So that was good. This is a really good final question. Probably the most important question. [00:28:07] Speaker C: Yeah, we're gonna unforeseen sloppy wet stuff. [00:28:11] Speaker B: The question we're actually asking everyone that we interview on this podcast here it is. Is a hot dog a sandwich? [00:28:20] Speaker A: Is a hot dog. No, because the other end is closed. [00:28:23] Speaker B: Okay, I like your reasoning. [00:28:25] Speaker A: You know what I mean? [00:28:25] Speaker B: The other end is closed. What do you think? [00:28:28] Speaker A: Yeah, because a sandwich is a sandwich. Is the bread on top and the bread on bottom. But on a hot dog it's. [00:28:34] Speaker C: And what if you just burn the hot dog the other way? What? [00:28:38] Speaker A: Well, then the, the closing would be on the other side. Either way it's. It's closed. And then if, if you rip the. [00:28:43] Speaker C: Both three sided. [00:28:45] Speaker B: I get like. [00:28:46] Speaker C: Is that what you're saying? Because there's three bread sides, it's. [00:28:49] Speaker A: Yes, yes, yes. But it's still, it's still not a sandwich. It's. It's a half circle. So it's a hot dog. If you rip crude. If you rip the hot dog bun in two and then put it on the top and bottom, then you could make that argument. But, but the traditional hot dog as is. I don't think it's a sandwich. [00:29:07] Speaker B: You know, I went to Chicago once, only one. I asked for ketchup on my hot dog dog and they got really angry at me. There's certain. [00:29:15] Speaker C: Really? [00:29:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:29:15] Speaker C: What did they put on the dog? [00:29:17] Speaker B: Pickles, lettuce, mayonnaise. So what, like a chili dog that's [00:29:22] Speaker A: just some stupid man. I. I love a chili dog. I'm a chili dog fan for sure. [00:29:27] Speaker C: Good. [00:29:27] Speaker B: So, Sean, this has been really great. We love your energy. We love having you at the festival. We love that you're part of the kingdom bound family. [00:29:34] Speaker C: And. [00:29:35] Speaker B: And thank you so much for all that you're doing. Thank you for just your heart. And thanks for your time here. This has been really good. [00:29:42] Speaker A: Thank you guys for having me. It's been a blast. Can't wait to see you in person. [00:29:46] Speaker B: All right, see you in July. Bye.
